COOKE CAREER CENTER CHALLENGE

UPDATE - CAREER CENTER CHALLENGE - DAY #5 (FEBRUARY 14th)

Most of us can use an extra set of eyes on our resumes/CVs to make sure they are comprehensive, fresh, and appealing. Make an appointment at your career center to revise your resume. If you’ve not yet created a resume, make an appointment with a career center advisor to get started. Post a picture of yourself in front of the career with your new or updated resume. Remember, great resumes lead to great opportunities!

CAREER CENTER CHALLENGE - DAY #4 (FEBRUARY 13th)

Need wardrobe advice for an upcoming interview? Visit your career center and make an appointment with an adviser. Some campuses even have clothing closets to help make interview wardrobe costs more manageable. While you are at it, check out this outstanding wardrobe advice piece by Cooke Scholar Emily Zaretzky! https://www.jkcf.org/our-stories/how-to-professional-wardrobe/

CAREER CENTER CHALLENGE - DAY #3 (FEBRUARY 12th)

Not on campus this semester, but want to take part in the challenge? We’ve got you covered! Think about a benefit you have derived from visiting your campus career center. Funding for a research project perhaps? Tips for interviewing like a pro? Graduate school application support? Share your career center story on www.cookeconnect.com and give inspiration to your fellow scholars.

CAREER CENTER CHALLENGE - DAY #2 (FEBRUARY 11th)

Attend a workshop at your campus’s career center. Workshop topics vary, but might include: negotiating your first job offer, creating a “stand-out” resume/CV or cover letter, dressing for success in interview situations, or how to apply for competitive national fellowships.

CAREER CENTER CHALLENGE - DAY #1 (FEBRUARY 10th)

Make an appointment with an advisor at your campus’s career center for an interests/personality assessment. Assessments are useful tools to help you think about careers that suit your academic strengths, personality qualities, and interests. Tests vary, but may include: CliftonStrengths, Myers-Briggs, or the Strong Interest Inventory. Optional bonus follow-up: contact your educational adviser at the foundation to discuss your results!

Scholars, get ready for the Cooke Foundation’s inaugural Career Center Challenge! Win prizes while building your skill set for the future. Participate individually or with the fellow scholars on your campus.

Next week, from February 10-14, Cooke undergraduate and graduate scholars are encouraged to take on challenges related to career development. Complete a challenge and win a prize!

Our challenges are based on the use of your campus career center. Why? Because the career center has SO MANY amazing resources for college students. Whether you want to find out about paid summer opportunities and internships, career assessment tests, or wardrobe tips for job seekers, the career center should be your go-to destination.

Wondering how to participate? Starting February 9th, watch for the following day’s challenge in the private Cooke Scholar Facebook group. A new post will appear every day through February 13th. Complete the challenge and you can share it back to the Facebook group to inspire your fellow scholars. You can also post them on Instagram - if you do, be sure to tag us @TheJKCF

Next, send an email to kharper@jkcf.org to report your completed challenge and request your prize. Prizes awarded for a singular challenge include the JKCF rosewood pen or tote bag. Scholars who complete two or more challenges will be entered into a raffle to win t-shirts, stylish moleskin notebooks, or the Foundation’s highly coveted sweatshirt blanket.
